Chasing Drunk Driver Ends in Jail for Oldham Man
Spencer Joseph Morris, 31, from Oldham Road, Oldham, was busted after a high-speed police chase in Towyn on August 8. Officers spotted his erratic driving on the A55 between Rhuallt and Holywell at 9:47am and gave chase.
The VW Golf Morris was driving swerved dangerously across lanes. When police signalled him to stop, he ignored them and fled, eventually pulling over on Gors Road just before 10am.
Jail Time and Driving Ban for Reckless Motorist
Last week at Caernarfon Crown Court, Morris faced the music. He was slammed with a 12-month prison sentence, banned from driving for three-and-a-half years, and told to pass an extended driving retest. He was also fined a £156 victim surcharge for multiple offences including drink driving and driving uninsured.
Police Warn: Drink Driving Will Not Be Tolerated
PC Martin Done of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Morris’s driving was reckless and completely irresponsible that morning and it was only by good fortune that no one was seriously injured or killed. Choosing to drive when impaired by alcohol is dangerous and unacceptable.”
North Wales Police are cracking down hard on the “Fatal 5” offences, including drink driving, with a tough Christmas Anti Drink and Drug Drive Campaign on the horizon. They promise to catch anyone who thinks they can get away with driving under the influence.
“The sentence handed down to Morris should be a clear warning to anyone tempted to take the risk,” said PC Done. “These dangerous actions come with serious consequences.”
