Hazmat Scare Sparks Level Two Lockdown at North Middlesex Hospital Car Park

Hazmat Scare Shuts Down North Middlesex Hospital Car Park

Emergency crews scrambled to North Middlesex Hospital in North London early Sunday after unknown hazardous material was found in the staff car park.

Level Two Hazmat Incident Declared

Police and London Fire Brigade arrived at the Stirling Way site just before 5am. The area has been cordoned off as a Level Two hazmat incident — meaning a serious risk from a toxic solid, liquid, or gas is suspected. Firefighters are tackling the threat in specialist gas-tight suits.

Specialist Units Called In

The incident commander requested the DIM unit, a specialist response team trained to detect and identify chemical, biological, or radiological hazards, and to monitor contamination levels to keep the public safe. Control zones remain in place, with police stopping anyone from entering.

Hospital Operations Unaffected

Officials say the hospital’s running smoothly, with no patients or staff reported injured. North Middlesex Hospital, the Met Police, and London Fire Brigade have been contacted but have yet to comment.
