Using Your Phone at the Wheel Is Deadlier Than Drink Driving
New research exposes a shocking truth: using your phone while driving dulls your reaction time more than being over the legal alcohol limit. Texting behind the wheel doubles your risk of causing a fatal crash compared to drink driving.
Crackdown by Hampshire and Thames Valley Police
Hampshire Constabulary and Thames Valley Police’s joint Roads Policing Unit are cracking down hard. Officers will be out in force targeting drivers who fiddle with their mobiles on the move.
“Most drivers are responsible, but those who keep texting, surfing the net, or multitasking on their phones are gambling with lives,” warned Road Safety Sergeant Dave Hazlett.
Distraction Leads to Disaster
- Phone distractions make you blind to road signs.
- You lose proper lane control and speed consistency.
- Motorists are four times likelier to crash when distracted by phones.
- Reaction times slow down by half when using a mobile on the move.
Sergeant Hazlett added: “Even hands-free calls distract you—never take your eyes off the road.”
Stop! Challenge Your Loved Ones Today
He urged everyone to challenge friends and family to ditch the phone while driving. Using a mobile behind the wheel? It’s simply unacceptable and deadly.
