Tragic Exeter House Fire Claims Three Lives
Specialist investigators are on-site after a deadly house fire tore through a home in Exeter in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Three Dead, Three Injured in Devastating Blaze
The fire broke out just after 5:30am on 21 February at a property on Clayton Road, off Bonhay Road in the St David’s area. Emergency services arrived to find the fire already extinguished.
Chief Superintendent Daniel Evans confirmed the grim toll: “Two adults, a 28-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, plus a 4-year-old girl have all died following this house fire.”
Three children—a 4-year-old boy, a 9-year-old boy, and a 7-year-old girl—also escaped with injuries. All three are in stable condition in hospital and will be transferred to bristol/" title="Bristol" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Bristol Children’s Hospital later today. All six victims are related.
Police Probe Ongoing, No Suspicion of Foul Play
Chief Supt Evans reassured the public there is no evidence of third-party involvement: “We are not seeking anyone in connection to this fire at this time.”
Authorities expect to lift the wider cordon along Bonhay Road by this evening, but a tighter security perimeter will remain around the property for at least three days while investigators work.
Community Asked to Respect Investigation
“This is a deeply upsetting incident and one that will cause great distress to the community,” said Chief Supt Evans. “We ask the public to give our officers space to carry out vital investigative work. A safe space for tributes and flowers will be announced soon.”
