Officer bitten as wild party ‘swarms’ Basford streets – public left horrified

Cops were left battling chaos after hundreds flooded Basford, Nottingham, for a raucous all-day party – with some guests even openly defecating in the streets.

Seven-hour street takeover sparks outrage

Residents say the partying kicked off around 3pm on Saturday and raged on until 9pm. Cars poured in, parking in side streets as crowds swarmed the area like a mob.

“People were jumping fences, drinking in the streets – and it got worse as it went on,” said one nearby resident. “We even saw people defecating outside. It’s disgusting.”

Stabbing drama amid the madness

Police revealed an 18-year-old man was stabbed just after 10pm and rushed to hospital with serious injuries. The attack is being treated as attempted murder.

Supt Mat Healey described the incident as a “brutal stabbing” in the middle of the chaos. “Officers came under attack while giving first aid, and three were hurt,” he said. One officer was even bitten during the mayhem.

Social media-fuelled party turns violent

  • The event was advertised online and linked to a group allegedly living in Bramble Close.
  • Police efforts to contain the crowd failed as more revellers from beyond Nottinghamshire joined in.
  • Some smashed through gardens trying to reach the party.
  • Police deployed dogs, drones, and a helicopter to control the scene.

Several arrests followed. A 21-year-old was held for knife possession, while a 22-year-old was arrested for carrying two knives and assaulting an officer.

Community demands answers

“We’re a community that needs answers now,” said the worried resident. “Why did these people think it was okay to invade our streets, cause anti-social behaviour, and why wasn’t it stopped sooner?”

Superintendent Healey slammed the gathering as “appalling,” especially given ongoing Covid-19 restrictions banning large crowds.
