Predator Gets 17½ Years for Sex Attacks on Under-13 Girl
Richard Tallis, 54, from Bolsover Road, West Tarring, was slammed with a hefty 17-and-a-half-year prison sentence on Friday 30 July at Portsmouth Crown Court. The vile offender pleaded guilty to six counts of sex assaults on a girl under 13, crimes that took place in Chichester between seven and 15 years ago.
Justice Served for Long-Term Abuse
The sentence not only locks Tallis up but puts him on the sex offenders register for life. He also faces a strict Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), banning him from any contact with children indefinitely — unless the court says otherwise.
Dedicated Detectives Crack the Case
The CPS backed the prosecution after a thorough probe by West Sussex Safeguarding detectives. They teamed up with local children’s services to safeguard vulnerable youngsters from any further harm.
“Tallis systematically abused this very young girl over several years, leaving her with deep and lasting trauma,” said Detective Constable Angela De Vivo of West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit.
“It took her until just three years ago to find the strength to speak out. We salute her courage and determination throughout the investigation and for being ready to give evidence if needed.”
Speak Out, Stay Safe
If you or someone you know has suffered similar abuse, police urge you to come forward. Detective De Vivo added: “Contact us anytime. We will investigate and provide expert support.”
