Insurance Broker’s Sick Secret: 11,000 Child Abuse Images Found in Hotel Stashes

Dad of Three Leads Double Life

Mark Stephenson, 52, from Tamworth, Staffordshire, hid a vile secret from his family and colleagues. The insurance broker amassed over 11,000 indecent images of children as young as five. Even worse, he shared these horrific pictures with other online paedophiles.

When police stormed his home, they uncovered 11,567 disgusting images stored across seven devices. Among them were 113 category A and B images—the most serious kind.

Tights Obsession Fueled Sickening Crimes

Stephenson’s twisted obsession? Young girls in tights. Warwick Crown Court heard he had been leading a “double life,” masking his dark urges behind a seemingly normal existence. The court described his tights fetish as “a powerful factor” in his criminal behaviour.

“You had been living a double life, because it is plain that on one hand you have been a successful, hard-working provider for your family… but there is a side which caused considerable concern.” – Recorder Balraj Bhatia QC

Offences Carried Out in Hotel Rooms

Stephenson often committed his crimes while away from home, abusing children’s images in hotel rooms during work trips. Police arrested him following a raid in April 2018.

Scary Extent of Abuse Revealed

Prosecutor Grace Ong revealed Stephenson was active right up until his arrest, distributing category C images of young girls in tights through social media groups. The court heard he stored images showing girls aged five to 14, captured outside school gates, trains, and shops—often just their legs.

Sentence and Punishment

  • Two years prison, suspended for two years
  • 200 hours of unpaid work
  • Must register as a sex offender for ten years

Judge Bhatia warned a straight jail term might lead to early release with limited supervision, hence the suspended sentence. Still, the chilling details underline a dark side hidden behind a respectable facade.
