Man Found Guilty of Murdering Teen in Shocking New Year’s Day Stabbing
A 21-year-old man was today found guilty of murdering 18-year-old Jay Fathers during a brutal early morning stabbing in Milton Keynes on New Year’s Day.
Quick Conviction After Three-Week Trial
Callum Aylett, from Juniper Gardens, Walnut Tree, Milton Keynes, was convicted in less than three hours at Luton Crown Court following a trial that lasted just over three weeks.
The attack happened at 2.47am on 1 January in Walshs Manor, Stantonbury. Police responded to reports of a disturbance and found Jay with multiple stab wounds.
A second man, 49, was also seriously injured in the stabbing and had to be rushed to hospital. Tragically, Jay later died from his injuries at Milton Keynes University Hospital.
Violence Sparked By Ongoing Dispute
Aylett arrived at the scene armed with two knives and stabbed Jay repeatedly before attacking the other victim.
“This tragic incident escalated from a dispute between two groups, and the level of violence that morning was shocking and completely unnecessary,” said Detective Chief Inspector Andy Shearwood of Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit.
“Jay was simply celebrating New Year and had no idea what fate awaited him that night.
“Despite the best efforts of friends and paramedics, Jay’s life could not be saved. It was only by luck that the second victim survived this brutal assault.
“Jay was a popular young man with his whole life ahead, and his violent death has devastated the local community and left his family struggling with unimaginable loss.
“We remain grateful for the courage of all the families involved who supported our investigation throughout the trial.”
Justice Served, Life Sentence Pending
Aylett was arrested at the scene and charged with murder and attempted murder on 3 January. He will be sentenced at a later date and is expected to receive a life sentence for his actions.
Detective Shearwood added: “While the exact reasons for the dispute remain unclear, I am satisfied that justice has been done. Aylett will spend a very long time behind bars.”
Thames Valley Police reaffirmed their commitment to tackling knife crime and making communities safer places to live.
