Passenger detained at Heathrow Airport and plane due to fly to Venice evacuated after suspicious item found

Officers at Heathrow Airport were alerted at 12:39pm on Sunday, 29 August, to a suspicious item found in a bag that was being screened in Terminal 5.
A passenger was traced and detained by officers while further enquiries are undertaken.
Passengers were temporarily taken off a flight to Venice while the matter was dealt with.
