Debt-Driven Murder Shocks Ealing Neighbourhood
Armen Aristakesyan, 43, from Uxbridge Road, W13, has been locked up for life after murdering 58-year-old Serafima Meshaka in her Ealing home. Following a brutal nine-week trial at the Old Bailey, he was sentenced to a minimum of 30 years’ imprisonment for the savage attack.
Friend Turns Killer to Steal Cash
The court heard Aristakesyan was a trusted friend who grew close to Serafima in recent months to gain access to her home. Detectives believe he targeted her to get his hands on cash she kept at her flat to pay for ongoing building work. With a £120,000 debt to illegal loan sharks piling up, Aristakesyan was desperate to bail himself out.
Police were called to Serafima’s apartment on Haven Green Court, W5, on 18 September 2019 after concerns for her welfare. She was found dead in the bathroom with severe blunt force trauma to the head. Notably, there were no signs of forced entry, indicating Serafima let her killer in.
CCTV Reveals Chilling Movements
- Serafima last seen leaving at 7:50pm to get a parking permit, returning alone minutes later.
- Aristakesyan arrived at 8:25pm carrying a small bag, later leaving at 9:21pm with a larger carrier bag suspected to contain stolen cash and the murder weapon.
- Phone records capture a cryptic call to his brother during the crime, with Aristakesyan saying, “Come, there is much.”
Statements Reveal Cold-Blooded Motive
“Serafima was going about her life as normal on the evening she died. She had run some small errands and prepared herself a dinner when Aristakesyan called for the second time that day. Having known him for around three years, she had no reason to suspect danger,” said Detective Superintendent Helen Rance.
“He succeeded in his calculated, pre-planned course of events to steal a substantial amount of cash from her. Serafima was no threat to him, but he betrayed her confidence and attacked her in her own home – her safe space – in the most cowardly way. Her family remain devastated and are still coming to terms with her untimely loss.”
Serafima’s former husband added: “Nothing will bring my wife back, no sentence this man can get for this horrific crime would ever be enough. She was a wonderful person who will forever be greatly missed.”
