Fire fury hits Isle of Wight

Andrew Turner, 59, sparked a blaze that devastated his own house on Beachfield Road. The fire broke out on Saturday, November 26, 2022, causing severe damage to the property Turner shared with his now ex-partner.

Turner confesses on the spot

Police were stunned when Turner calmly admitted setting the fire deliberately as soon as they arrived. Officers found a knife in his pocket upon arrest. In a police interview, he confessed the act was revenge for the recent breakup.

Guilty plea and custody

At Isle of Wight Crown Court on January 30, Turner pleaded guilty to arson and carrying a knife in a public place. He was remanded in custody and will return on April 21 for sentencing.
