Fire Breaks Out in London Flat – Candle Blamed
A fire ripped through part of a three-room flat on the fourth floor and damaged the exterior of a fifth-floor flat. Four residents escaped before firefighters arrived, while one man received treatment at the scene.
The blaze is believed to have been sparked by a candle, a common culprit in household fires.
Fire Brigade Issues Serious Candle Warning
“Candles are one of the most common causes of fires in the home and you should be careful when using them,” said a London Fire Brigade spokesperson.
“Never leave candles unattended. Keep them away from anything that could catch fire – curtains, furniture, clothes.”
“We recommend swapping traditional candles for LED flameless versions. If you do use real candles, follow our simple safety tips.”
Fast Response from Firefighters
The Brigade was alerted at 10.16am and had the fire under control by 11.19am. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Greenwich, New Cross, Deptford, and Lewisham stations tackled the blaze.
