Met Police Firearms Officers Caught Faking Training Records Get Final Warnings

Firearms Officers Caught Faking Training Records

Two Metropolitan Police firearms officers have been slammed for cheating on their training. Sergeant Hayley Russell and PC Chris Strickland, both from the Specialist Firearms Command, faked their firearms continuation training records back in November 2019.

Gross Misconduct Found After Investigation

An independent probe found both officers guilty of gross misconduct for breaching honesty, integrity, and conduct standards. They were handed final written warnings but kept their roles.

Commander Issues Stark Warning on Officer Standards

Commander Kyle Gordon said: “We require all of our firearms officers to train regularly and refresh their skills to stay competent and keep London safe. This includes mandatory reclassification shoots.”

“One officer failed to do some reclassification elements, and both falsified documents to cover it up. While they remained qualified and public safety wasn’t at risk, honesty and integrity are non-negotiable. This behaviour breaches our core values and has been rightly sanctioned.”
