Son Jailed for Life After Brutal Murder of Father in Bradford
Phillip Badwal, 25, was sentenced to life imprisonment today with a minimum of 20 years at Bradford Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to murdering his father, Santokh Singh, in their shared home on Airedale Road, Barkerend.
Fatal Attack Inside Family Home
On 30 November 2020, emergency services were called to the address where they found 59-year-old Mr Singh with severe injuries. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Badwal was arrested shortly after on suspicion of murder. He was charged two days later and remanded in custody ahead of his trial.
Shocking Delay in Calling for Help
“Badwal unleashed a serious and sustained assault on his father in the house that they shared, leaving him with injuries which were to sadly prove fatal.
“Rather than seek urgent medical attention for his seriously injured father, Badwal contacted drug dealers before finally ringing the emergency services, who, despite their best efforts, were unable to revive Mr Singh.
“Our thoughts remain with the family of Mr Singh at this very sad time, and I hope this outcome will bring them some comfort and closure.”

Plea U-Turn Cuts Trial Short
The trial at Bradford Crown Court began earlier this week but was abruptly halted on day two when Badwal dramatically changed his plea to guilty, avoiding a full trial.
