A young woman has been handed a nine-year sentence at Bristol Crown Court for the manslaughter of Nimroy “Nim” Hendricks, who died after being stabbed in Crawley in 2020.
Girl sentenced for Nimroy Hendricks stabbing
On Friday 4 March, the girl received five years behind bars plus four years on extended licence. She initially faced murder charges last July following a Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team probe. But medical experts agreed she was suffering a significant mental abnormality at the time of the attack. The Crown accepted her plea to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility.
Tragic death rocked community
Nimroy Hendricks, 24, was found with a single stab wound to his chest in Russell Way, Crawley on 27 October 2020. Nim, known as Nim to mates, was known to the defendant. Detective Chief Inspector Andy Wolstenholme called the case “complex and tragic” and extended condolences to Nim’s loved ones.
“Nim was a peaceful, selfless and caring man. A talented musician who loved life,” said DCI Wolstenholme. “His death came from a knife brought from home, in a place it never should have been. These moments have left immeasurable pain for many.”
Police urge public to act on knife crime
The detective urged anyone with information about knife carriers in Sussex or beyond to come forward. “Help us stop more families facing the heartbreak Nim’s family has suffered,” he said.
