Gunman Tried to Smash Car Window in Shocking Wellingborough Incident
At 9pm on March 4, 2021, a startled couple driving through Wellingborough spotted a gang of men sprinting from an alleyway and jumping into a Volkswagen Polo. Concerned, they drove off, hoping the drama had ended.
But when they returned 15 minutes later to Newcomen Road, the Polo appeared again, trying to block their path. Then Daniel John Stray, known locally and to the couple, emerged wielding a pistol. He lunged at their car window, smashing attempt in full swing.
Luckily, the pair escaped unharmed and alerted the police.
Shocking Weapons Haul Found at Stray’s Home
Officers swooped on Stray’s house and uncovered a dangerous stash: a knife, shotgun cartridges, ammunition, and three 9mm rounds suited to a handgun.
Thanks to a thorough probe by the Force’s Operation Revive Team targeting gangs and violence, Daniel Stray was nabbed and charged with multiple firearms offences.
Stray Slapped with Nearly Seven Years Behind Bars
Last week, on May 27, Stray copped a hefty 6 years and 9 months in prison after pleading guilty at Northampton Crown Court. Charges included being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammo, and possessing them with intent to threaten unlawful violence.
“Getting Dan Stray behind bars is a massive win for Operation Revive,” said lead investigator DC Scott Allan. “People like Stray think they’re above the law and untouchable. This case proves they’re not. We’ll never stop fighting to make Wellingborough safer.”
Northamptonshire Police vow to keep cracking down on serious violence and gun crime. The message to Stray’s gang associates is blunt: you’re not as clever as you think, and your time will come if you keep living a violent lifestyle.
