Officers were called shortly before 9 a.m. to reports of a man accosting two teenagers in Burton Walk.
An investigation was launched, and a suspect – a 43-year-old man from Brighton – was quickly apprehended on suspicion of removing a child from the custody of a person with legal authority.
He is still being held at this time.
This was a terrifying experience for two young girls,” Detective Inspector Neil Phillips said, “but thanks to the quick work of our response officers, a suspect was taken into custody within a few hours of the reports being received.
We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident, and our neighbourhood policing officers have been visiting local schools in the area to provide reassurance and advice.
We will also increase patrols in the area before and after school hours to provide additional visible reassurance.”
