Racist thug gets 36 weeks behind bars for attacking cops in Huyton
Violent rampage ends in court
Steven Benfield, 30, a no fixed address yob, has been locked up for 36 weeks at Liverpool Magistrates Court. He pled guilty to racially aggravated public order offences, assaulting a police officer, and criminal damage to a police vehicle.
Besides jail time, Benfield must pay £154 in court costs and a victim surcharge.
Spitting, abuse and violence on officers
Cops were called to a disturbance at a house in Huyton on Wednesday, June 15. Benfield was taken into custody on suspicion of domestic violence assault under Section 39. But things quickly turned ugly as he racially abused officers, assaulted them, and even spat in their faces.
Police chief slams ‘unacceptable’ attacks
Knowsley Community Policing Inspector Mark Berry said:
“We are pleased the courts have dealt with Steven Benfield’s racially charged and violent behaviour.”
He added:
“Our officers risk their safety each day to keep us safe, and they should never have to endure physical violence while doing their job.
“The vast majority of law-abiding people agree attacks on police and emergency workers are totally unacceptable.
“These assaults affect not just the officers but their families and colleagues. We will always investigate and prosecute offenders.”
“My message to those who attack police is simple: remember one day you or your family may need our help.”
