Brave Couple Targeted After Standing Up to Racist Attack on The Leas

A man and woman stepped in at around 5.30pm on Monday 20 June 2022 after witnessing three men hurl racial abuse at passers-by along The Leas. When confronted, one of the abusers lashed out, assaulting the man and kicking his dog.

Beachgoers at Sandgate Also Racially Abused and Attacked

Nearby, a family enjoying the beach at Sandgate Esplanade, close to Earls Avenue, was approached and racially abused at the same time. The situation escalated when stones were thrown at the victims. One family member was kicked and punched so badly they needed hospital treatment.

Police Make Arrest, Appeal for Witnesses

The next morning, police arrested a 21-year-old man from Deal on suspicion of assault and a public order offence. Detectives believe both incidents are linked and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
