Radio 1 Shake-Up: Jack Saunders Takes Over Scott Mills’ Iconic Chart Show

Big changes are coming to BBC Radio 1 this September 9th. After Scott Mills announced he’s leaving the station, rising star Jack Saunders steps up to host the legendary Official Chart show.

From Student Radio to Radio 1 Staple

Jack’s journey began in student radio before joining Radio 1 in 2018. He quickly became a key tastemaker with shows like Radio 1’s Future Artists and the Radio 1 Indie Show. His star further soared after hosting BBC’s Glastonbury 2022 coverage.

Joining A Storied Line-Up

Jack follows in the footsteps of Radio 1 greats such as Jameela Jamil, Clara Amfo, Greg James, and of course, Scott Mills. Every week, he’ll count down the UK’s top 40 best-selling and most streamed singles. With the Official Singles Chart turning 70 this November, it’s a huge moment for the show.

Jack’s Big Ambition

“I can’t believe my name has been added to the endless list of legends who have presented The Official Chart,” Jack said. “To take over from an amazing broadcaster like Scott Mills is incredible. I can’t wait to get started and leave my mark.”

Aled Haydn Jones, Head of Radio 1, praised Jack’s popularity and passion: “Fans of The Official Chart will love his infectious energy and love for music.”

Martin Talbot, Chief Executive of the Official Charts Company, added:

“Jack is an ideal choice for the new host of radio’s most vibrant chart show. His meteoric rise and BBC Glastonbury star turn show he’s ready to bring fresh energy as the chart’s 70th anniversary approaches. Scott will be tough to follow, but Jack has the talent to nail it.”
