Smoke Seeps from Portsmouth Basement Flat – Firefighters Rush In
Smoke poured from a Portsmouth property, sparking a rapid response from firefighters. Crews from Cosham and Southsea raced to a three-story building in North End after multiple calls about smoke billowing from the windows.
More Than 20 Firefighters Battle Blaze
The fire broke out in the basement flat of the Queens Road building just before 7pm. Over 20 firefighters arrived quickly, donning breathing apparatus to tackle the smoke-filled property. They used hose reels, 45mm jets, and high-pressure hoses to douse the flames.
Fire Tamed in 10 Minutes, Smoke Damage Spreads Upstairs
After roughly ten minutes of fierce firefighting, the blaze was fully extinguished. However, the two flats above suffered significant smoke damage. Crews cleared the smoke using positive pressure ventilation (PPV) to make the homes safe again.
Cause Unknown – Fire Safety Checks Underway
The fire’s cause remains a mystery as investigations get underway. In the meantime, firefighters carried out safe and well checks on neighbouring homes and handed out fire safety leaflets to keep residents alert.
