Man Arrested Over Murder of Missing Damien Heagney
Damien Heagney, 47, vanished between late 30 December and early 31 December 2021 near Dromore, just outside Cookstown. He was reported missing more than a year later, on 19 July this year.
Details of Disappearance
Described as around 5’10” (1.77m) tall with a stocky build, Damien’s whereabouts remained unknown for months. Police launched a long-running investigation into his disappearance.
Arrest Made in Cookstown Murder Probe
A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder after a property search in Cookstown. Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Wilson said:
“While I’m keeping an open mind, I now believe that Damien has sadly been murdered.”
“Earlier today, Saturday, August 6, we arrested a 50-year-old male on suspicion of murder following the search of one property in the Cookstown area.”
“The man is currently assisting police with ongoing inquiries.”

Police have urged anyone with information about Damien Heagney’s disappearance or the investigation to come forward and assist with inquiries.
