Blaze Breaks Out in Lewisham Flat – Ten Fire Engines Rush to Scene

Ten fire engines and about 70 firefighters raced to tackle a furious flat fire on Russett Way, Lewisham. The fire broke out in a communal lobby on the sixth floor, sparking panic among residents.

Dramatic Ladder Rescue

Firefighters heroically rescued a man and a woman trapped on scaffolding using a 9-metre ladder. About 60 residents had already evacuated before the Brigade’s arrival, while others stayed safe in unaffected flats.

  • 999 Control Officers received 12 calls reporting the blaze.
  • The Brigade was alerted at 1:53am and had the fire under control by 2:50am.
  • Fire crews from Greenwich, Lewisham, Deptford, Lee Green, New Cross, and nearby stations joined the emergency effort.
