Croydon Rapist Slapped with 23 Years Behind Bars
A vile Croydon serial rapist has been locked up for 23 years after a chilling conviction for multiple rapes and a string of other crimes.
Horrific Crimes Uncovered
Alan Mackey, 37, from London Road, Croydon, faced justice at Kingston Crown Court after a gruelling trial ended on Friday, 13 December 2019. On Thursday, 30 January, he was sentenced to a hefty 23 years in prison for six counts of rape alongside fraud, coercive behaviour, blackmail, assault, and theft.
The terrifying case began when the victim was reported missing by her family on 7 June. Police found her the next day at a hotel in Richmond, where she revealed she was held captive and repeatedly raped by Mackey, suffering severe facial injuries during the ordeal. The predator even snatched her bank card to pay for the hotel room and shop items.
Police Praise Sentencing, Warn Public
Detective Inspector Laura Semple of the Met’s South West Safeguarding team said: “Mackey subjected the victim in this case to a horrific and prolonged assault and he has rightly been sentenced to a significant time behind bars. He is clearly a dangerous offender and we are pleased he will not be able to cause this kind of harm to any other women. We hope this sentencing encourages any others subject to this kind of offending to come forward and report it to police.”
Victim Thanks Police, Looks Ahead
Following the verdict, the brave victim said: “This whole process has had a severely detrimental effect on both my life and that of my family. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome and could not have got through the process without the help and incredible support of all police involved, particularly PC Vivian Sutton and Detective Constable Siobhan Dodge who have been with me through every step of this journey. I can now look forward to the future and try and put this all behind me.”
This case is a stark warning that predators will be pursued relentlessly and dealt with to the fullest extent of the law.
