Joe Joyce and Zhilei Zhang Set for Sizzling Heavyweight Rematch at Wembley
The heavyweight world is buzzing as Britain’s Joe Joyce gears up for a fiery rematch with China’s Zhilei Zhang. The clash goes down at Wembley’s OVO Arena on September 23.
Joyce Seeks Redemption After Shocking Defeat
Joyce, 37, tasted defeat for the first time in April when Zhang stopped him in the sixth round due to a swollen eye. The referee called it off after the ringside doctor raised safety concerns.
Refusing to back down, Joyce vowed: “I’m coming back to take back what’s mine. No compromises. No underestimating my opponent. Nothing but a win.” The loss has fired up Joyce, pushing him to show the improvements he’s made for this rematch.
Before the upset, Joyce held a flawless 15-fight record with 14 knockouts. He was quick to activate the rematch clause, tweeting in May: “Rematch clause activated. Taking back what’s mine.”
Promoter Warns: Joyce Has Work to Do
Veteran promoter Frank Warren admits Joyce faces a tough challenge. “Joe will acknowledge that Zhilei did a number on him at the Copper Box, and he has a lot to work on to put it right,” Warren said.
The stakes are sky-high. Joyce was on the edge of a world title shot before Zhang’s shock win. Victory in September would see him reclaim his WBO mandatory contender status and put him back in line to challenge world champ Oleksandr Usyk.
Warren added, “He knows what he has got to do, and his immediate future depends on him regaining his position as WBO Interim world champion.” A win also means Joyce could face either Usyk or Daniel Dubois, who are set for their own title showdown.
Zhang Ready to Build on ‘Big Bang’ Legacy
Zhang, nicknamed the “Big Bang,” is relishing the chance to extend his triumph. Since going pro in 2014, he boasts an impressive 25 wins, one loss, and one draw.
He approaches the rematch with fresh eyes: “I look at the rematch as if it was a new fight; I look at Joe Joyce as if I never fought him before. I started from zero, and this is the new self.”
This heavyweight showdown at Wembley promises fireworks as both men fight for redemption – and glory. Fans worldwide are counting down to this epic rematch.
