Man Stabbed in Neck in Shocking Crawley Attack
Police rushed to Gossops Drive on the evening of 11 March 2022 after reports of a stabbing.
A 31-year-old local man suffered a knife wound to his neck and was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.
Suspect Caught After CCTV and Witness Tips
Officers quickly launched an investigation, sifting through CCTV footage and gathering witness statements. The very next morning, they arrested 23-year-old Callum Steer from Rosedale Close, Crawley.
Steer stayed silent throughout his police interview, offering no explanation or defence. He was charged with grievous bodily harm.
Eight Years Behind Bars for Attack
At Lewes Crown Court on 28 June, Steer pleaded guilty and was handed an eight-year sentence – six years locked up plus two years on licence.
Detective Sergeant Phil Weston-Smith of Coastal CID said: “While the reason for Steer’s actions are unknown, it is clear that he inflicted a serious injury on his victim, who is fortunate to live to tell the tale.”
PC James Reilly, the investigating officer, added: “Thanks to the bravery and support of the victim and his family, we secured the evidence needed to arrest and charge Steer, and present the case to the Crown Prosecution Service.
“I urge anyone who has been a victim or witness to a crime to come forward. We will listen and fight to get justice for those seriously harmed on Sussex’s streets.”
