A chilling scene unfolded on Hospital Street, Newtown, Birmingham, as a man in his 40s doused himself in petrol and set himself ablaze last week.

Emergency Crews Rush to Scene but Couldn’t Save Him

Eyewitnesses were horrified to see the victim completely engulfed in flames just after 3.40pm on 8 October. Paramedics arrived swiftly and gave treatment on the spot, but the man tragically died in hospital shortly after.

Police Confirm No Suspicion of Foul Play

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We were called to Hospital Street in Newtown, shortly after 3.40pm on 8 October after receiving reports a man had suffered burn injuries. The man, in his 40s, received treatment at the scene but sadly died in hospital a short time later. His death is not being treated as suspicious.”
