Nottingham Police Launch Blitz on Shoplifters in Clifton
Nottinghamshire Police have teamed up with local businesses to smash shoplifting in Clifton with a tough new crackdown. They’re rolling out high-visibility patrols alongside undercover security to nail the most notorious thieves behind the crime spree.
Patrols and Covert Guards Target Crime Hotspots
Uniformed officers will be a regular sight around retail hotspots, handing out reassurance to shoppers and staff alike. Meanwhile, secret security guards will be deployed inside stores, keeping a close eye on shoplifters in action.
This approach has already worked wonders in nearby Sneinton, where shoplifting dropped by 42%.
Targeting Persistent Offenders with Tough Tactics
Inspector Steve Dalby, neighbourhood policing lead for Clifton, said: “About 80% of shop thefts stem from a small gang of persistent offenders. We’re focusing our resources on these criminals and already seeing promising results.”
“Prison sentences have hit several repeat offenders recently, and we’re pushing for criminal behaviour orders (CBOs) to keep them away from shops. CBOs ban offenders from certain areas and give officers arrest powers if broken.”
Specialist force teams and Operation Reacher units are zeroing in on prolific criminals across the city, including Clifton, to smash retail crime.
Partnership Working and Crime Prevention
Inspector Dalby added: “This fight needs teamwork. Our joint work with businesses has helped us spot offenders faster thanks to increased crime reporting and intelligence sharing.
“Our Prevention Hub’s Crime Prevention team is visiting local stores to advise on security and support applications for CBOs. Covert guarding is a vital tool as it deters offenders and provides crucial intel.”
Dalby urged: “Businesses worried about shoplifting should get in touch. We’re determined to keep Clifton’s shops safe, so communities can shop without fear.”
