Family Plucked to Safety in Dramatic Fire Rescue
A blaze tore through part of a three-storey townhouse’s ground floor last night, but firefighters pulled off a daring rescue. Wearing breathing apparatus and equipped with fire escape hoods, they saved a man, a woman, a child, and a baby trapped in a second-floor bathroom.
Fire Escape Hoods Prove Lifesavers
Fire escape hoods gave the family crucial protection from deadly gases like carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide. These hoods can shield wearers for up to 15 minutes by filtering toxic smoke, even if the person is unconscious. If needed, multiple hoods can be swapped in to extend protection. Though they don’t provide oxygen, they make breathing much easier during a smoke attack.
“The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers provided vital fire survival advice to those inside before firefighters arrived,” said a spokesperson.
Rapid Response Brings Fire Under Control
- Fire Brigade called at 9.37pm
- Fire under control by 10.17pm
- 15 firefighters from Ealing, Park Royal, and Wembley stations
- Three fire engines on scene
The London Ambulance Service treated the rescued family at the scene. Investigations suggest the fire started accidentally, involving a consumer unit.
