Gun Haul in Abbey Wood: Eight Firearms Seized in Major Police Raid
In the early hours of Wednesday, 21 December, police swooped on a location in Abbey Wood as part of a major firearms crackdown. Detectives from Operation Viper, experts in tackling gun crime, led the raid alongside units from the Territorial Support Group, Firearms Command, POLSA, traffic cops, and local officers.
Cache Includes Handguns, Shotgun and Slam Gun
The search uncovered two boxes packed with eight guns – six handguns, a shotgun, and a rare slam gun – plus a stash of assorted ammunition. Officers also found more ammo hidden in nearby woodland. All weapons and rounds have been seized for intensive forensic analysis, which is still underway.
Detective Chief Inspector Hails Operation a ‘Game-Changer’
“This operation has removed a significant number of deadly firearms from circulation, preventing any number of potentially dire outcomes,” said Detective Chief Inspector Gavin Collins from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command. “Violent crime wreaks havoc on victims and communities alike, so our teams work around the clock to smash organised gangs behind illegal gun importation, manufacture, and trade.”
He added: “Thanks to the local community for their patience and help during this operation. We know it’s unsettling for residents. But the truth is, most shootings link back to gangs and crime groups. If you’re not involved, the risk of becoming a gun crime victim remains low.”
The Met continues its relentless battle to rid London of deadly firearms ahead of the new year.
