Bassetlaw Police Target Drug Dealers, ASB, and Vehicle Crime

Inspector Hayley Crawford has reshaped her policing priorities after listening to local concerns. The new focus areas for Bassetlaw are cracking down on drug supply and use, antisocial behaviour (ASB), and vehicle-related crime.

These priorities will guide the neighbourhood policing teams from November through to January. Inspector Crawford is determined to protect the community and bring criminals to justice.

Recent Arrests Show Police Are Taking Action

  • A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary after a car was stolen from a driveway.
  • Two men were nabbed during a fuel theft crackdown on the A1.
  • A drug driver was caught in a rural crime operation.

Insp Crawford said: “These priorities are here for us to focus on and really crack down on those people committing these sorts of crimes – this is not to say other crime will be bypassed and forgotten about.”

Focus on Antisocial Behaviour and Drug Crime

Antisocial behaviour is top of residents’ concerns. Thanks to government funding, patrols have ramped up on hotspots. The police regularly meet locals at drop-in sessions to hear their worries.

Inspector Crawford added: “My Operation Reacher team uses intelligence to target premises involved in drug distribution. Drug supply and abuse wreck communities, so we’re relentless in shutting them down.”

Vehicle Crime Gets Extra Attention

Vehicle crime will get a bigger push. This includes theft of and from vehicles, fuel theft, and car key burglaries. Many rely on their cars for work and pride, making this crackdown crucial.

Insp Crawford revealed: “We’ve teamed up with the council to offer free Faraday pouches to protect keyless car owners and carry out regular operations targeting fuel theft along the A1. We’re also working closely with neighbouring forces to spot patterns and strike harder.”

She urges victims to speak up: “Whether it’s rural crime, vehicle crime or antisocial behaviour – we want to hear from you.”
