Three More Men Locked Up Over Bristol Riot Madness

Another trio have been slammed with jail time for their roles in the chaotic Bristol riot last year. Gopal Clarke, Henry Olohan, and Arthur Lazarus were sentenced today (Friday 16 December) at Bristol Crown Court after pleading guilty to violent crimes during the rampage outside Bridewell Police Station on 21 March 2021.

Violence Caught on Camera

Clarke, 25, from Kingswood, was caught on footage kicking police officers multiple times and hurled objects at close range. He even snatched a baton with help from a bystander. The video also shows him using a police shield as a battering ram, striking officers fiercely.

He was handed an 18-month prison term for violent disorder.

Olohan and Lazarus Also Behind Bars

Henry Olohan, 24, from Montpelier, was jailed for eight months. He admitted charges of affray and criminal damage.

Arthur Lazarus, 23, received a 20-month sentence after pleading guilty to violent disorder. His Honour Judge James Patrick slammed his actions:

“You arrived near the front of the protest and were abusive to police, targeting them just before 6pm as they tried to control the situation. You pushed the line, threw liquid, and used a police shield to attack officers.”

Riot Toll Rises

With these latest convictions, a total of 26 people have now been jailed for their part in the Bristol riot, sharing a combined prison sentence of 85 years and one month.

Detective Superintendent James Riccio said:

“The guilty pleas might reflect the mountain of evidence we uncovered. But I hope these men have realised just how far they crossed the line. It was a night of shameless, destructive violence. These latest sentences send a strong message against such appalling crimes.”
