A 15-year-old boy was arrested after a violent rampage against police in Mansfield, leaving several officers battered. The shocking incident unfolded on West Gate at around 6.10pm on Sunday evening.
Teen Racer Arrested After Assaulting Police
The boy was nabbed on suspicion of racially aggravated public order offences and four assaults on officers. Despite the serious charges, he was later freed on conditional police bail.
Police also broke up a crowd of about ten other teenagers hanging around the area, who were reportedly causing trouble.
Police Slam Racist Abuse and Violence
“Racial abuse is totally unacceptable and will never be tolerated by Nottinghamshire Police,” said Inspector Kylie Davies, district commander for Mansfield. “If people behave in this way they will be arrested and face the consequences. Likewise, if people lash out and assault police officers they will also be dealt with robustly.”
Crackdown on Antisocial Teens
Inspector Davies praised the officers for their swift and professional response under tough conditions. However, she condemned the disrespectful behaviour of the group of teenage boys at the scene.
“We are working hard to clamp down on antisocial behaviour in the town centre,” she added. “Enhanced patrols are now in place to make Mansfield a safer, more welcoming place to live and visit.”
She also warned parents to keep tabs on their teen’s whereabouts and behaviour in the evenings. “Parents must play their part by questioning where their teens are and discouraging antisocial conduct,” Davies urged.
