Chalk Fall Sparks Closure of Brighton’s Beloved Undercliff Walk

Brighton and Hove Council have shut down the Undercliff Walk between Brighton and Saltdean after a major chalk fall over the weekend.

Seafront Access Restricted But Key Spots Remain Open

While most of the Undercliff is off-limits, visitors can still reach the beach plus popular spots like Molly’s Café and Whitecliffes Café. Access is available via the Rottingdean Ramp and Saltdean subway.

Council Warns Public: Safety Comes First

Brighton and Hove Council said: “Due to constant and significant chalk fall, we have taken the decision to temporarily close the Undercliff Walk to protect the health and safety of those who use it.”

They added: “We will reopen the Undercliff as soon as possible, but only when there is no longer a risk to public safety. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
