Douglas Knight, 29, approached the woman while she was walking her dog in Charles Wood along Undercliff Road around 9.30 a.m. on December 22, 2021.
Knight had passed the woman before turning to pursue her. As he approached her, he began to pet her dog and chat with her before she resumed her walk.
A jury at Portsmouth Crown Court was told that Knight followed the woman before grabbing her and forcing her to her knees.
Despite Knight’s efforts to conceal the woman’s face, she bit him, screamed for help, and elbowed him before fleeing down Hunts Road.
Police were called, and Knight was apprehended nearby by officers.
He was later charged with false imprisonment and committing an offence with the intent to commit a sexual offence.
Knight admitted false imprisonment on May 6, 2022, but denied the second charge, and the case was set for trial in Portsmouth on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.
The jury found him guilty today, Wednesday, January 18, of committing an offence with the intent to commit a sexual offence.
Knight, of Undercliff Drive in Niton, was remanded in custody to appear in the same court on February 28 for sentencing.
