Child Killed in Horrific Dog Attack in Netherfield
A tragic dog attack has claimed the life of a child in the back garden of a Broadlands, Netherfield home.
Police Respond After Emergency Call
The ambulance service alerted officers shortly after 5 p.m. today following reports that a dog had attacked a child. Sadly, the child’s death was quickly confirmed on the scene.
Police remain at the property where the dangerous dog was humanely euthanised. No other injuries have been reported. Specially trained officers are supporting the grieving family through this devastating ordeal.
Investigation Underway, No Arrests Yet
Superintendent Matt Bullivant described the incident as “absolutely tragic.” He warned it is still early days in the investigation and urged the public to avoid speculation, especially on social media.
“In order to ensure public safety, a decision was made earlier this evening to destroy the dog involved, and this has been done humanely,” said Superintendent Bullivant.
He added that a strong police presence will continue in the area and reassured the public: “There is no reason to believe there is any danger to the wider public at this time.”

The superintendent also appealed to the media and the public to respect the family’s privacy as they cope with their loss. “It’s difficult to imagine what they’re going through right now,” he said.
