Police Sniff Out Massive Cannabis Haul in The Meadows

Officers on patrol in The Meadows caught a strong whiff of cannabis coming from a passing van. At around 2.45 a.m. on Tuesday, police tailed the vehicle down Meadows Way, stopped it, and searched inside.

Van Packed with 50+ Cannabis Plants

More than 50 mature cannabis plants were stuffed inside the van. To make matters worse, the driver was found to be behind the wheel without proper documentation.

Industrial Unit Raid Uncovers 550 More Plants

Following the van stop, police zeroed in on an industrial unit on Crossgate Drive. Gaining entry at 8 a.m., officers unearthed a massive cannabis farm growing roughly 550 plants. The growers had dangerously bypassed electricity supplies to power their operation.

Drugs Worth Over £450,000 Destroyed

Police have now seized and destroyed the entire haul, estimated to be worth more than £450,000. A 28-year-old man has been charged with producing and possessing Class B drugs with intent to supply, fraud by false representation, and driving without insurance.

He’s set to face Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today (2 February).

“This was a fantastic result sparked by officers conducting a routine patrol in The Meadows,” said Detective Sergeant Simon Carter of Nottinghamshire Police.

“The initial stop alone was great police work, but further inquiries helped us shut down a huge cannabis grow. We’ve taken a significant number of drugs off Nottingham’s streets and prevented criminals from profiting from crime.

It sends a clear message: those trying to bring drugs into our city will be stopped and brought to justice. Plus, these illegal grows pose a massive fire risk and are a danger to the community.”
