Burglar Busted After Leaving Fingerprints on Stolen Jewellery Box
Dean Holm, 33, left a crucial clue after removing his gloves to pry open a jewellery box he’d swiped from a locked filing cabinet. The thief smashed his way into a house on Valley Road, West Bridgford, before ransacking multiple rooms and stealing thousands of pounds worth of jewellery.
Victim Returns to Devastating Discovery
The homeowner, returning after a few days away on January 3, immediately alerted police. Forensic experts found Holm’s fingerprints and palm print on the jewellery box, leading to his quick identification through the national police database.
Digital Evidence Seals His Fate
Further damning proof emerged from Holm’s phone. Investigators discovered searches for stolen watches and calls to a local pawnbroker, confirming his intent to sell the loot. Holm, from Burton Road, Gedling, was no stranger to crime; he had a 2016 prison sentence for six previous house burglaries.
Justice Served at Nottingham Crown Court
Holm pleaded guilty to burglary and was handed a three-year prison sentence today at Nottingham Crown Court. Detective Sergeant Ben Skellern of Nottinghamshire Police spoke about the case:
“This case caused considerable upset to the victim, who is constantly reminded of the stranger who invaded her family home. Many treasured items stolen that day have never been recovered, and no amount of insurance money can replace them. I hope she can find comfort knowing Holm is now serving a richly deserved sentence.”
“This was an outstanding investigation by all involved and has helped prevent others from falling victim to similar crimes,” Skellern added.
