Driver Arrested After High-Speed Police Chase Ends in Horror Crash
A dramatic police pursuit in New Addington ended in chaos late Monday night. A driver, believed to be seriously injured, was arrested after attempting to ram officers off-road.
Chase Ends in Carnage on Gravel Hill
The chase kicked off around midnight on March 13, 2023, when a BMW fled from a marked police patrol on Kent Gate Way, Addington. Moments later, the car smashed into another vehicle on Gravel Hill, Croydon.
The victim, a 39-year-old man driving a Vauxhall Mokka, suffered serious and potentially life-changing injuries. He was rushed to St George’s Hospital, Tooting.
Emergency Crews Battle to Rescue Victims
Paramedics from the London Air Ambulance and the London Fire Brigade rushed to the scene. Several people were trapped inside the wreckage and had to be freed by rescue teams.
Two women in the BMW were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. Both were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Road Closure and Ongoing Investigation
The road has been shut for nearly eight hours as officers from the Met Police “Catford” Traffic Garage investigate the crash. A crime scene remains in place on Gravel Hill.
A Met Police spokesman said: “At approximately 11.49pm on Monday, 13 March, a BMW drove off from a marked police unit. Shortly after, it was found involved in a collision with another car on Gravel Hill.”
The Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct have been notified, as per protocol.
