Bus Crash Horror on M53: Driver Identified as Stephen Shrimpton
A devastating crash on the M53 near Hooton has claimed the life of 15-year-old schoolgirl Jessica Baker. The bus, carrying 58 passengers including students from Calday Grange Grammar School and West Kirby Grammar School for Girls, overturned between junctions 4 and 5 just after 8am Friday morning.
Tragic Loss and Serious Injuries
Jessica Baker was among the passengers when the bus flipped over on the Wirral stretch of the motorway. Four children were rushed to hospital, with a 14-year-old boy suffering life-changing injuries. Another 13 were treated for minor wounds at a specialist emergency centre and later released.
Driver’s Family Launches Funeral Fund Amid Heartbreak
The bus driver, Stephen Shrimpton, has been named following the crash. His family revealed he experienced “medical issues at the wheel” just before the tragic accident. Stephen’s sister-in-law, Emily Church, set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral costs.
“He’s sadly left behind my sister, now a widow in her early 30s, and their two young children aged eight and four — who will grow up without their beloved father,” Emily said. “Any donations would be much appreciated to give Stephen the funeral he deserves.”
Police Appeal for Witnesses as Investigation Continues
Sabi Kaur, Local Policing Superintendent, has urged anyone who saw the crash or has crucial information to come forward immediately. The probe is ongoing as authorities seek answers into what caused this heartbreaking incident.
