Massive Blaze Hits Barbican Flat as Firefighters Race to Control It
Fire Erupts in Third-Floor Apartment
This afternoon saw a fierce fire rip through a four-room flat on the third floor of a residential block on Bartholomew Close, Barbican. Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters scrambled to the scene.
Damage Spreads to Fourth Floor, One Man Hospitalised
The flames destroyed most of the affected apartment and also caused damage to part of another flat above. Before crews arrived, a man escaped the blaze but was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service.
Firefighters Use Cutting-Edge Tech to Tackle Blaze
Station Commander Steve Howlett praised the team’s efforts, saying, “Firefighters worked incredibly hard to ensure everyone was accounted for and there were no remaining hot spots.”
The Brigade’s drone unit played a vital role, surveying hard-to-reach areas and feeding critical images to commanders.
Fire Brought Under Control Within Hours
The Brigade received the emergency call at 3:58pm and extinguished the fire by 6:13pm. Firefighters from Soho, East Greenwich, Lambeth, and surrounding stations joined the fireground effort.
Officials are currently investigating what sparked the blaze.
