Car Crime Crackdown: Thief Nabbed in Early Morning Sting
James Doran, 33, was caught red-handed in the early hours of Monday, March 13, after reports of a suspicious figure fiddling with parked car handles in Portland Crescent, Stapleford.
Armed with Tools to Steal
Police later found Doran in the Chilwell area carrying a modified set of car keys, a multi-tool, and an extra silver key tool — all clear signs he was ready to break in.
Guilty Plea and Prison Sentence
Doran, from Great Hoggett Drive, Chilwell, initially refused to talk to officers but later pleaded guilty to being equipped to steal. On Tuesday, Nottingham Magistrates’ Court sent him down for 30 weeks, also citing a breach of a previous suspended sentence.
Police Warning to Thieves and Drivers
“Vehicle crime is upsetting and expensive for victims, and it is something we take extremely seriously,” said Sergeant Al Roper of Nottinghamshire Police.
“This was a really good piece of police work made possible by a timely call from a member of the public.
I hope that this case serves as a warning not only to other offenders but also to drivers to always leave their vehicles secure.”
