Cop Amanda Aston Convicted of Perverting Justice and Fraud
Police Officer Caught in Web of Lies
Police Constable Amanda Aston, 43, was found guilty of two counts of perverting the course of justice and one count of fraud by false representation after a three-week trial at Maidstone Crown Court.
Falsely Accused Fellow Officer
The court heard Aston, based at Guildford police station, began a relationship with another officer in February 2017. During the relationship, she made false claims of domestic abuse against him, accusing him of coercive and controlling behaviour.
The officer was charged and arrested, later breaching bail conditions by contacting her. He spent two months in prison as a result.
Truth Emerges, Justice Served
New evidence showed Aston withheld crucial information and fed false statements to investigators, misleading the original probe and causing the wrongful arrest and charge.
Chief Superintendent Tom Budd said: “Criminal offences committed by our officers and staff simply cannot be condoned. Allegations against any of our officers or staff are always subject to a thorough investigation to ensure that those who do not meet the high standards expected of them in order to maintain public trust and confidence are dealt with swiftly and robustly.”
Aston will be sentenced on 22 May at Maidstone Crown Court.
