Seven Sisters Cliffs Lose a Sister – Now The Six Sisters Cliffs

Shockwaves hit the South Downs as the famous Seven Sisters Cliffs get a new name. The SDNPA Authority announced the iconic landmark will now be called the Six Sisters Cliffs after recent cliff falls erased one of the peaks.

Natural Collapse Forces Name Change

The cliffs have become unstable over the past few years. Several major cliff falls culminated earlier this year when a massive chunk of one peak plunged into the sea. This dramatic loss forced the hand of the South Downs National Park Authority, owners and caretakers of the cliffs.

With the disappearance of Brass Point, the once seven-hilled sequence lost its leading sister. The Authority responded by renaming the dips between Rough Bottom and Gap Bottom as “One Big Bottom” to reflect the new landscape.

Protecting a Changing Icon

“The Seven Sisters Cliffs are an important part of the South Downs National Park, and we are committed to protecting and preserving this unique natural wonder for future generations,” said Mr Richards, spokesperson for the SDNPA. “However, we must also recognise that the cliffs are constantly evolving and changing, and we must take steps to ensure the safety of visitors to the area.”

“The loss of one of the Seven Sisters is a sad event, but it is important to remember that nature is constantly changing, and we must adapt and evolve with it,” added a local environmental group spokesperson. “The decision to rename the landmark is a small but important step in this direction, and we hope it will help to raise awareness about the need to protect and preserve the fragile ecosystem of the South Downs National Park.”

Still a Must-See Coastal Beauty

Despite the new name, the Six Sisters Cliffs remain a top attraction for tourists and locals. Visitors can still soak up breathtaking views and enjoy a rare glimpse of England’s ever-changing coastline. Nature may erase a sister, but this natural wonder continues to captivate all who visit.
