A Murder Investigation Has Started Following The Death Of A Man On Canvey Island

Police were called shortly before 1.45 a.m. today (Saturday, February 4) to reports of an injured man in the car park of Iceland on Furtherwick Road.
He was allegedly assaulted near The Haystack pub a short time before.
Sadly, the man died at the scene despite the best efforts of emergency personnel.
While we investigate, an area of the island including Furtherwick Road and Long Road has been cordoned off.
Officers anticipate that the centre of Canvey will be disrupted throughout the day.
I want to extend my condolences to the family of the man who has died,” said Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood, who is leading the investigation.
“A team of officers and staff is working hard to determine what happened to him, and we are beginning to piece together a picture of the circumstances surrounding the assault.” “If you saw what happened, or have any other information about the assault, please contact us.”
