Blaze Breaks Out in Battersea High-Rise – Dozens of Firefighters Rush to Scene
Fire Erupts in Eight-Storey Building
More than 50 firefighters and multiple fire engines were scrambled tonight to tackle a fierce blaze at Holcroft House on Ingrave Street, Battersea, South West London.
The fire broke out just after 6pm, ripping through part of the seven floors of this multi-dwelling block near Clapham Junction station.
Residents Rescued as Flames Engulf Flat
Fire crews reported the entire four-room flat on the seventh floor destroyed by the inferno. Three residents – a woman and two men – were rescued wearing smoke hoods. Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, led them to safety.
All three were treated on scene for smoke inhalation, with rapid response units from 123 and Hammersmith fire stations in attendance.
Blaze Under Investigation
The cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities have launched an investigation.
Historic Fires Haunt the Block
This isn’t the first time flames have hit this building. Back in 2014, a fire ripped through three apartments, forcing the rescue of over 18 people. That earlier blaze saw more than 80 firefighters battling the flames just before 4pm on Ingrave Street.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade confirmed: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a flat fire on Ingrave Street in Battersea yesterday evening.”
