Tragic End to Police Chase as Motorbike Crash Claims Life of 30-Year-Old Father

Deadly Crash on Commercial Road

A 30-year-old man died yesterday after a high-speed police chase ended in disaster. The motorbike he was riding smashed into railings on Commercial Road near Limehouse around 2.20pm on Monday, March 20.

Both riders were thrown from the bike. One, a 29-year-old man, was rushed to hospital but isn’t in a life-threatening condition.

Victim Left Behind Wife and Newborn

The deceased, named as Alamin Kazi, leaves behind a wife and a two-week-old daughter, adding a heartbreaking personal toll to the tragedy.

Gang Past Haunts Victim

Alamin’s criminal past casts a shadow over the incident. In 2016, at just 23, he was jailed for three and a half years after admitting involvement with a gang that stole up to ten motorcycles daily. The stolen bikes were used to snatch mobile phones from pedestrians before being sold off.

His convictions included two counts of robbery, handling stolen vehicles, and attempted theft. The gang was found guilty in July 2016.

Police Under Scrutiny After Chase

Authorities launched an independent probe after referring the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards will investigate the police chase that preceded the crash.

Images from the scene showed a large police cordon on Commercial Road, which remained closed most of the day as forensic teams hunted for clues. Debris was scattered across the road, highlighting the violent nature of the crash.
