Aya was killed in a drive-by shooting in Blackburn in May 2020. Louis Junior Otway, 42, from Manchester, was found guilty of her murder and the attempted murder of Pachah Khan.
The case was related to a feud between two rival businesses in King Street, Blackburn. Quickshine Tyres, which previously only washed cars, started selling tyres next door to RI Tyres in early 2019.
Innocent passer-by Ms Hachem was killed when she was hit by one of two bullets fired from a passing car, which was intended for Pachah Kahn. Suhayl Suleman, 37, who had previously been charged with murder, was found not guilty at the trial at Manchester Crown Court.
Aya Hachem was halfway through her law studies at the University of Salford when she was killed. Her family described her as a “beautiful angel in heaven” and said they were “proud of her and missed her so much”. Following the sentencing, Detective Inspector Ian Moore said Otway had played “a key role” in organising the “bungled execution” of Pachah Khan and the sentence “reflects the gravity of this horrendous crime”.
Eight people were also jailed in November 2021 over Hachem’s death.
