Police Launch Investigation Into Shooting Incident At Residential Premises In Meigh

Police in Meigh are urgently appealing for information following a distressing shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, September 16, in the Gullion View area of the town.

Shortly before 02.00 local authorities received a report detailing a terrifying incident in which multiple gunshots were fired at a residential property in the vicinity. The incident resulted in a man in his 50s being struck once in the stomach by gunfire. Fortunately, he was promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention, and his injuries are currently believed to be non-life-threatening.

In addition to the injuries sustained by the victim, damage was inflicted upon a kitchen window during the shooting. It has been reported that at the time of the incident, a woman in her 20s, a man in his 30s, and another woman in her 30s were present inside the property. While they were not physically harmed, the traumatic event has left them deeply shaken.

Local law enforcement is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this unsettling incident. Authorities are urging anyone who may possess information that could aid in their inquiries to come forward and assist with the investigation.

In a statement issued by the police, they stated, “Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and anyone with any information which could assist with police enquiries is asked to contact officers on 101 quoting reference number 119 16/09/23. Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
