In a swift response to a firearms-related incident in the North Queen Street area of north Belfast, local police have arrested two individuals. The incident, which occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, September 16, prompted concerns within the community.
According to Detective Sergeant Kennedy, the incident unfolded shortly before 16.00 BST. on that fateful Saturday. It was reported that two men had arrived at a residence in the North Queen Street area, one of whom was allegedly armed with a suspected firearm.
Inside the house at the time of the incident, a woman was alerted to the presence of the two men outside her property. When she opened the door, the armed individual pointed the suspected firearm at her and demanded money. This alarming confrontation spurred immediate action.
The suspects were challenged by someone outside the property, leading to the armed man threatening a man and once again demanding money. Following these tense moments, the two suspects swiftly fled the scene in a white camper van-like vehicle. They traveled along North Queen Street, eventually reaching the junction of the Limestone Road in Belfast.
The Belfast Police Department quickly mobilised to apprehend the suspects, successfully stopping their vehicle in the University Street area. Two arrests were made, involving individuals aged 36 and 24, both taken into custody on suspicion of multiple offences. These charges include threats to kill, common assault, and possession of a firearm or imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
As the investigation continues, the arrested men remain in custody, cooperating with detectives as they delve into the details of the case.
Authorities are appealing to anyone who may have been in the North Queen Street area during the incident and noticed anything unusual or suspicious to come forward with information.
